Steve raced down to David’s room followed close behind by Oscar. “Don’t touch anything Steve.” Oscar warned. “I’ll get a CSI team in here in five minutes.”
Steve stopped in the doorway. “You’re right” he stepped back. “Go call them.”
Oscar walked down the hall to the phone. He quickly dialed. “This is Oscar Goldman, I need a CSI team at Col. Austin’s home.”
“We’ll be right there sir.” Bram Raymond assured.
Oscar hung up. “Bram will be right here.”
“Thanks Oscar. Who do you think took him?”
“We have at least two choices….maybe three.”
What are the first two?” Jaime asked the questions she knew Steve was too nervous to ask.
“My first choice would be Hansen…the second top choice would be the Soviets…and the third choice…”
Steve and Jaime watched him close.
“My third choice…if there is a third choice would be the Thompsons…”
“But they’re in jail.” Jaime reminded.
Oscar nodded. “That’s the last I heard…They were trying to make bail…”
“You would have been informed if they did make bail.” Steve looked straight at Oscar
Oscar nodded. “I haven’t heard as of yet…and this time of night…it’s very unlikely they’ll make bail…in fact if they didn’t get bail by this afternoon…I don’t think they will.”
Again Steve and Jaime watched him. “My money is on Hansen or the Soviets.” Oscar looked toward the front door as the bell rang. “That must me the CSI team….”
“I’ll let them in.” Jaime headed for the door. She returned shortly afterward with Bram Raymond and the rest of the CSI team right behind her.
“I want David’s bedroom dusted.” Oscar ordered. “No corner is be left untouched.”
Bram nodded. “We’ll get right on it sir.” He and his team broke out all of their equipment and got down to business.

Steve paced the living room while Jaime and Oscar sat on the couch watching him. “Steve, sit down and relax.” Oscar coaxed.
“I can’t.” Steve continued to pace. “How long does this take?”
“It can take a couple of hours.” Oscar reminded.
Steve was about to wear a hole in the carpet when Bram stepped into the living room. “Col. Austin?”
Steve turned to him “Yes.”
“In light of the finger prints…we know who has your son.”
//////////////////////////
“I knew it!” Steve cried. “Oscar do you think Hansen would have taken him to the NSB?”
“More than likely” Oscar agreed.
Steve grabbed his car keys. “Come on, what are we waiting for?”
“Steve, we just can’t go charging in there” Oscar argued. “The guards at the NSB won’t let us past the front gate and you know it.”
Steve nodded. “I suppose you’re right, but what do we do? I mean how do I get my son back?”
“We’ll do this the right way Steve. I’ll call Hansen; see if I can reason with him.” Oscar spoke.
“Good luck with that.” Jaime sighed. “Hansen isn’t the sort of person you reason with.” Jaime reminded.
“I know.” Oscar sighed as he reached for the phone. He dialed Hansen’s number at the NSB. Oscar was surprised when Hansen picked up his phone.
“Hello” Hansen replied.
“Hansen, this is Oscar Goldman.” Oscar wanted to reach through the phone and strangle the man on the other end.
“What do you want Goldman?” Hansen barked.
‘Well at least he didn’t hang up on me’ Oscar thought “Do you have Col. Austin’s son David in your office?”
“Of course not, I wouldn’t allow him my office he’s a spy.” Hansen replied.
“He’s not a spy, and you know it!” Oscar shot back.
“I know of no such thing…I haven’t interrogated him yet.” Hansen stormed. “Look Goldman, I’m doing what’s in the best interest of the child. If he was held by the Soviets…”
“The Soviets never go him…you know that.” Oscar continued to argue.
“Our conversation is finished.” Hansen slammed the phone down.
“Well, I should have seen that one coming.” Oscar laid the receiver back down on it’s cradle. “Hansen has David…though not in his office.
“Where is he?” Steve’s words came through gritted teeth.
“I would assume he has David in the hole.” Oscar chose his words carefully.
“In the hole?” Steve came back.
Oscar nodded he says it’s in the ‘best interest of the child’.” Oscar shook his head.
“I want my son back here…I want him back here right NOW!!!” Steve shouted.

David sat in one of the interrogation rooms at the NSB he jumped when Hansen walked in. “Good evening young David.” Hansen’s tone was anything but soothing. “I bet you’re hungry.”
David nodded.
‘You just tell me what I want to know…and I’ll fix you want ever you want eat.”
David stared at him blankly. “What do you want to know?”
“I want to know what the Soviets told you!” Hansen shouted slamming his hand down on the table.
David started crying. “I don’t know anyone named soviet.”
“Don’t play dumb with me!” Hansen continued to shout. “You know exactly what I’m talking about…the Russians!”
David continued cry. “I don’t know those people.
“Don’t play games with me!” Hansen’s face was purple with rage.
Terrified David started to cry harder. “I want my dad…I want to go home…I don’t want to be here.
Hansen laughed “No one wants to be here kid.”
/////////////////////////////////
“We’ll get him back.” Oscar promised. He reached for the phone “I’ll get Russ on it…”
“I want on it Oscar!” Steve thundered.
“No way Steve, Russ is already out, all I have to do is give him a call he can be at the NSB building in minutes.”
“Ok” Steve nodded “but if my son isn’t back here by eight, I’m going to the NSB myself. Hansen won’t know what hit him.”
“We’ll take care of it.” Oscar assured. “Russ, its Oscar I need you to go over to the NSB building, we believe Hansen is holding David there.”
“I’m on my way.” Russ hung up his car phone he was a block away from the NSB building.
The gate guard saw the car coming. “I’m sorry Mr. Russell but you can’t…”
“No, you’re the one who’s going to be sorry.” Russ crashed through the gate. ‘if they won’t let me in…they must have David here’ Russ thought as he made his way across the parking lot.
“That’s far enough Russell!” Hansen shouted.
Russ turned to him “Hansen, you’re in a lot of trouble”
“I’ll be the judge of that.” Hansen shot back. “You best turn around and head right back out of here.”
“Not without David.” Russ stepped closer to Hansen.
“When I’ve finished with him!” Hansen shouted stepping closer to Russ than he knew what was good for him.
Russ wasted no time he grabbed Hansen by the collar ‘Hansen you’re under arrest.” Before Hansen knew what was happening Russ had the cuffs on him. “Now call your office and have them bring David down…you’re in enough trouble to not cooperate.”
//////////////////////////////
“Take these cuffs off of me this instant!” Hansen demanded.
“Not until I have David Austin.” Russ seethed.
“What’s going on here!” Parr demanded
Russ beat Hansen by two seconds. “Our friend Hansen here kidnapped Steve Austin’s son.”
“I brought him in for questioning.” Hansen shot back.
Parr looked at Russ. “If he brought him in…”
“Did he tell you how old David is?” Russ quizzed.
Parr looked back to Hansen. “Well Hansen?”
“He’s old enough to know…”
“He’s not even nine.” Russ interrupted.
“What is the meaning of this Hansen?” Parr shouted.
“Well I uh…” Hansen stammered…
////////////////////////////////
“You will get that boy out of here and send him back to his father…NOW!” Parr demanded.
“Yes sir.” Hansen relented.
///////////////////////////
Steve looked at his watch for the fourth time in as many minutes. “Where could they be?” He wondered.
“Don’t worry; Russ will bring him back here.” Oscar tried to assure.
Steve stood and started pacing back and forth
“Steve, please I just had the rug fixed from the last time you paced in my office.
“I can’t help it Oscar.” Steve continued to pace.
“I know I don’t blame you.” Oscar sat back in his chair waiting for the phone to ring. They both jumped when the door opened.
“I’m sorry” Rudy apologized. I knew if I called down you’d jump…and if I just came down…I thought coming down was the best. “I take it you haven’t heard from Russ yet.”
“Not yet” Oscar sighed. “Steve is getting a little jumpy.”
“So I’ve seen.” Rudy muttered.
Again Steve glanced down at his watch. “That’s it.” Steve headed for the door. “I’m going to the NSB and give Hansen a piece of my mind…”
///////////////////////////////////////
“Steve let Russ handle it.” Oscar ordered.
“No Oscar I’m going over there.” Steve opened the door.
“Hi Steve, going someplace?” Russ asked holding tight to David’s hand.
“You found him” Steve cried. “He reached down and hoisted David onto his shoulders. “Thanks Russ.” He walked out of the office and down the hall.
“What about Hansen?” Oscar asked.
“I told him we’d drop the charges so long as I left the NSB with David. However…on the other hand he’s going to have to answer to his own people. I doubt he works for the NSB anymore.”
Oscar nodded.

The next day Steve and Jaime along with the other families assembled in the judge’s chambers to have their children’s names officially changed back to their own family names. It took only a few minutes.
The judge looked at all of the families. “Do you all still agree on getting the children together at least once a month?”
“Yes your honor” they all replied.
“Very well, now normally in a situation like this…I would place the children in one foster home and have weekend visits and then weekly visits till they could assimilate to their new situation but it appears that you have put what in the best interest of all of the children ahead of yourselves so I’m going to let things stand where they are.”
“Thank you your honor” They all replied.
“I know you’ll all get along just fine.” The judge finished.
As they all left the court room the children all bounced in front of the adults chattering the only way children can. Behind them the adults planned how they would get the children together.
//////////////////////////
Later that night Oscar and Rudy sat in Steve and Jaime’s living room. Rudy had brought cake and ice cream and Oscar had brought a bottle of champagne for the occasion. After David had enjoyed his cake and ice cream the adults sat sipping champagne.
“I think everything is going to work out just fine.” Rudy lifted his glass in a toast.
“I think you’re right.” Oscar agreed.
“By the way Oscar what’s going to happen to Hansen?”
“He’s done at the NSB. Parr let him go.” Oscar told him. “He’ll probably never work in government again…”
“Well, that’s good.” Jaime interjected.
“So, no one can break up this family?” Steve noted.
“You’ve come this far.” Oscar stated “No one can break this family up.
/////////////////////////////
Before going to bed…Steve and Jaime looked in on David sleeping soundly in his space decorated room.
“He’s going to be just fine.” Jaime smiled as she softly closed the door.
“We all are.” Steve put his arm around her as they headed for their own room.
