“What ever happened with the hospital?” Jaime asked.
“Huh?” Steve gave her a blank look.
“Did you sue them, I mean they as much as allowed that woman to walk out of there with your son in her arms.” Jaime reasoned.
Steve shook his head. “No, I never even thought about suing them. I guess I figured that all I wanted was my son…no amount of money could make up for that.”
“Well, if you ask me” Jaime continued. “They are accessories before…during and after the fact.”
“Once I get my son back….I’ll talk to Oscar about it.” Steve assured.
“Don’t do it for me” Jaime looked him straight in the eye. “Do it for you and your son.”
“That’s who I’ll do it for…if I get my son back.” Steve sighed.
“What do you mean ‘if’?” Jaime scolded. “You’ll get him back…”
“And what if he doesn’t want to come with me?” Tears formed in Steve’s eyes.
“Why wouldn’t he want to?” Jaime wondered.
“He doesn’t even know me.” Steve sighed.
“I think you’re wrong” Jaime smiled. “I think he does know you. He just doesn’t realize it yet.”
Steve chuckled “I appreciate everything you’re doing.”
“It will be ok.” Jaime assured.
“I hope you’re right.” Steve sighed. “I sure hope you’re right.”

The rest of the week went slow for Steve and Jaime. Steve ached to see his son. ‘How could this have happened?’ He asked himself over and over.
“You know Jaime, there’s something that has been bothering me.”
“What’s that?”
They were interrupted when the phone rang. Steve grabbed the receiver first.”Hello.” He spoke.
Steve, it’s me Tom” Steve’s lawyer spoke. “I have some news for you.”
“Go ahead.” Steve braced himself for whatever his lawyer had to say.

“He wants to see you.” Tom told him. “His family isn’t real thrilled with the idea but they really have no choice…”
“I’ll say they don’t.” Steve had to move the receiver to his left hand to keep from crushing it. “I mean I want my son now. I don’t want him to go back there.”
“You may not have a choice” Tom cautioned. “I was able to get this visit on the prevision that David would be returned to them till we can hammer it out in court.”
“Hammer it out in court!!” Steve shouted. “Tom! David is my son…my son. I want him back. Why does a judge have anything to do with it? I just assumed that David would be returned to me. No problem.”
“We have to consider what’s in the best interest of the child.” Tom tried to explain.
“Then let David stay with me till we hammer it out in court. I’m what’s in his best interest. I don’t care if this family had nothing to do with the kidnapping…in fact…I don’t believe it. I want my son removed from them today!” Steve shouted.
“It’s not that simple Steve” Tom’s voice was low “let the wheels of justice move forward I’ll be the first to admit they move slow at times…but we will get to the point we want to be.”
“Ok Tom. You do it your way…I’ll do it mine.” Steve spoke softly and clearly into the phone.
“Don’t go doing anything rash.” Tom again cautioned. “Dave is set to spend the weekend with you don’t blow it.”
“This is Monday Tom…are you trying to tell me I don’t get to see my son till Friday?”
“Actually it will be Saturday at noon you’ll have him till six on Sunday.” Tom continued they have a family function Friday night. A grandmother’s birthday or something in Richmond…”
“They are taking my son out of the state even though they are fully aware that he’s not their son?” Steve questioned.
“Steve this was planned months ago. They had no idea at the time.” Tom tried to reason.
“Somehow Tom…I don’t believe that. I’ll get back to you.” Steve hung up and quickly dialed Oscar’s number.
“That does sound odd.” Oscar agreed when Steve had finished telling him of his conversation with his attorney. “Let me do some poking around on all sides. First we’ll make sure that Brian Thompson was unaware of the kidnapping. I agree it had to come out sometime in the past eight years. And I don’t see why David can’t stay with you till this is all settled….
